Food for All DC is a non-profit charity that strives to provide food to low income home-bound residents in real need. Our clients are generally elderly citizens, handicapped, or single mothers with young children. The operation is entirely volunteer operated, with the assistance of federal and other agency grants.
Thanks to everyone who came along for our BIG Thanksgiving delivery
We delivered to 88 households and had turkeys for almost all our families – thanks to everyone who helped out and especially those of you who managed to bring a turkey. Some folks brought more than one. One volunteer brought 6! Another couple brought 20!!!! AMAZING
Also a BIG THANK YOU to volunteer Steve Mayers from Wells Fargo for nominating us for a $1000 Wells Fargo Community Partners grant which we were awarded this month.
We will return on Saturday December 7th 2013 at 9am SHARP.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered with us on 11/23. Big thanks to those of you who brought turkeys for deliveries. Some folks brought more than one! I thought six was a lot but that was topped with 20 turkeys from one very generous couple and a pick up truck!!! Amazing.
Remember – no program Saturday November 30th. We will return on 12/7/13 at 9am.
Our annual BIG Thanksgiving push will be on Saturday November 23rd at 9am SHARP. We will be delivering to most of our clients and need a lot of drivers!
Also, if possible, we would love it if you could bring a frozen turkey with you. We hope to be able to give all our clients one that day. 8-10lbs would be ideal.
Finally there will be no Food for All DC program the following Saturday, November 30th.
Early start but you finish by lunchtime…
Drivers who can deliver food especially welcome!
We were so short of drivers last week that 16 seniors didn’t get their deliveries until Wednesday.
It’s DC Schools Beautification Day and the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington so we will probably really struggle with volunteers.
If you are in town for the march this would be a great way to kick of an incredible weekend! Please come along and help – especially if you have a car or can help navigate.
Saturday morning August 24th 9am (sharp). Location and volunteer info here.
The place we organize our program from, Universalist National Memorial Church, does other great outreach work with the organization SOME (So Others Might Eat).
At Leland Place, a residential facility on North Capital Street for men in recovery from homelessness and addiction to alcohol and other drugs they need volunteers to help out once or twice a month to cook and share dinner with the residents. If you are interested please check out their site here or email email@example.com for more info and date of their next meeting.
Please show your support this weekend when we shoot a short video for Food for All DC that will be used to promote the program. We really need a BIG turnout – please come along if you can. If you have one of our t-shirts then go ahead and look it out and wear it on Saturday!
