Hi! Welcome...

Food for All DC is a non-profit charity that strives to provide food to low income home-bound residents in real need. Our clients are generally elderly citizens, handicapped, or single mothers with young children. The operation is entirely volunteer operated, with the assistance of federal and other agency grants.

Just another volunteer…

One thing you’ll notice is that when you volunteer at Food for All DC is that it’s very informal. We treat everyone the same. All volunteers are expected to muck in and help; whether it’s bagging produce, filling grocery bags or picking up trash and recycling.

This especially goes for our good friend Senator Jon Tester and his wife Sharla who’ve volunteered with us on a number of occasions. There was no fanfare or fuss when the Senator and his wife volunteered with us during last year’s federal government shutdown. We put them to work on our assembly line packing Food for All DC grocery bags with a selection of cans, pasta, juice and pasta.

Then as soon as the packing was done they stepped right up to go out and deliver some of the bags they just filled!

AMURT saving lives in Nigeria

Andy and Dada meeting the locals

With maternal and child mortality rates amongst the highest in the world AMURT’s Primary Health Program in Ebonyi State Nigeria is saving lives. Just over a week ago a former Food for All DC Volunteer Andy Watts traveled to Abakaliki (the capital of Ebonyi) to implement a new database system for their Maternal Health Program. Andy has been working on this system for many months and finally got to meet the folks who will be using and benefiting from this system. There is still a lot of work to do but he is making great progress. Food for All is very proud of everything Andy has done and we can be sure that his work will be greatly appreciated by everyone there involved in the program.

AMURT (our parent) doing amazing work in the Philippines

AMURT – the parent organization of Food for All DC – runs a project in the Philippines that is incredible! They are rebuilding and repairing over 100 classrooms, schools, and homes affected by typhoon Haiyan. Overall it is a $2 million project being run under the capable leadership of Kurt Behringer.

We are truly proud and delighted to see AMURT having such a major impact on civil society!

Thanks to Wells Fargo

On Wednesday afternoon we had the privilege of attending a presentation at Wells Fargo offices in DC to receive a donation from one of our volunteers, Kyle Moore, who was awarded runner-up in their volunteer of the year award.

Kyle has been a great supporter of Food for All and we really appreciate all he and Wells Fargo have done for us. Thank you!

No Program on Saturday March 15th due to Marathon!

Food for All DC will not be operating on Saturday March 15th 2014.  The Rock & Roll DC Marathon closes many of the roads surrounding the church making it virtually impossible to host our program and deliver food across the city.

We will be operating normally all other Saturdays in March.

Thanks to our friends at Trohv – Keep on Giving campaign

The good folks at Trohv are helping us with the Keep on Giving campaign from 1/1-1/31.

Pop along to their DC (Takoma Park) or Baltimore (Hampden) stores with a donation of 3 non-perishable food items and get 15% off any Gus*Modern furniture and goods.

It’s a beautiful store and they have always supported local organizations, artists and charities. Thanks guys!
