Hi! Welcome...

Food for All DC is a non-profit charity that strives to provide food to low income home-bound residents in real need. Our clients are generally elderly citizens, handicapped, or single mothers with young children. The operation is entirely volunteer operated, with the assistance of federal and other agency grants.

A practice in assembly lines

We had a huge turnout of volunteers today, nearly 75 people showing up to help out! Needless to say, there were a lot of opportunities to make new friends. The only difficulty when we get such a large turnout is that we may not have enough jobs for everyone to do. So, we ask that groups limit their size to 15 people or come in a bunch of cars to do deliveries as we usually need more drivers. Today, we delivered 58 bags to all four quadrants of DC!

For those of you doing deliveries: some of our clients may not have much social interaction during the week since they are homebound, so if you feel comfortable chatting with them, please do so! Some of their stories are quite incredible and touching, turning struggle into triumph and negativity into compassion.
Annnnd here’s a small joke to keep you thinking for the week: What do you call a fake noodle?
We’ll release the answer next Saturday..
Thanks for helping to provide some of your neighbors in DC with adequate food. Until next weekend!

P.S. Please remember to turn in your sheets!

Great opportunity for groups! Thanks to PSI

Groups are especially welcome at Food for All DC!

Last week we had an awesome group from the IT consulting firm Planned Systems International (PSI). They came with 7 folks (including kids) and 4 drivers which really helped. They also purchased 6 t-shirts! We need more firms like this!

Thanks PSI!

Thanks to Goulston & Storrs for their generous donation

We recently received a check for almost $800 from the employees at the law firm Goulston & Storrs.

Thanks to everyone who contributed. This will go a long way to purchase food for our clients in real need.

We are back from our short break – DRIVERS needed more than ever!

We missed two weeks due to weather and the marathon. We have a backlog of deliveries.

If you can come along, help out and drive then we would appreciate it.

Cheers

Graeme

A special request from Chuck…

We are all Food For All DC volunteers

My name is Chuck Coughlin, and I have recently begun volunteering to help Food For All DC raise funds to support its mission.  I’m not writing to ask you for money.  I’m writing to ask for your continued support for Food For All DC by providing knowledge and ideas you may have about funding sources.

Like many of you, I’ve been to the basement of Universalist National Memorial Church to pack groceries and make deliveries to DC’s homebound residents.  I’ve seen how Food For All DC brings DC residents together, fostering both a sense of community and of giving.  I’ve met the homebound people Food For All DC serves, including families, elderly, and the sick.  One elderly woman especially struck me when I delivered food to her, as she beamed with joy, telling me how Food For All DC gives her the ability to offer her grandchildren apple juice when they visit.  I’m sure many of you could share similarly rewarding stories.

Let’s continue working together to make sure Food For All DC has what it needs to continue doing so much good for the District

  • Do you know of a private trust which makes funds available for nonprofit community organizations like Food For All DC?
  • Does your employer donate to or sponsor nonprofit organizations within our community?
  • Are you aware of events in which nonprofit organizations may participate to raise funds?

Just as we come together week-after-week to pack and deliver groceries, let’s work together to identify ways in which Food For All DC may raise funds to support its mission of ensuring that our homebound neighbors may eat.

If you know of any funding sources or have any ideas as to how Food For All DC may support its mission, please email me at chuck@foodforalldc.org.

On behalf of Food For All DC, I thank you for any information you can provide about funding sources, and I thank you for being a volunteer.

Sincerely,

Chuck
